WALKS
BANSTEAD WOODS. Good beech woods and open spaces.
Ramblers Rest pub nearby with teas and coffee available.
COULSDON COMMON. Wooded area. Fox pub nearby.
CROHAM HURST. Hilly wooded and open area.
FARTHINGDOWN/HAPPY VALLEY, COULSDON. Large open and wooded areas with
walks.
HAYES COMMON. Hayes
KENLEY COMMON. Plenty of wooded and open areas. Sometimes the gliders
are up from Kenley Aerodrome. Wattenden Arms nearby.
KINGS WOOD (Hamsey Green). Pleasant woods with grid of paths.
Bluebells in April/May.
LIMPSFIELD CHART. Large wooded area. Other good areas nearby on
escarpment.
LLOYD PARK. Right in the middle of Croydon, an extensive area of
parkland.
RIDDLESDOWN. It takes about one hour for a leisurely walk
across Riddlesdown via the rear of Hamsey Green, then to Warlingham, for a
drink at one of the pubs. Or walk past the quarry and down to Whyteleafe.
Or walk over the Common, cross the A22 and climb up to Kenley Common and
the Wattenden Arms for a drink. Or walk through Mitchley Woods and other
wooded areas nearby.
SELSDON WOOD. Woods and open areas, bird sanctuary.
SPRING PARK WOODS. Addington Road, West Wickham.
TOYS HILL. Wooded National Trust area. Fox and Hounds nearby.
WOLDINGHAM. Many walks around, particularly in the area above the M25.
PLACES FOR TEA
BRASTED. Teashop on the South side of the High Street (A25)
CHARTWELL. Winston Churchill's house with National Trust
restaurant
EMMETTS. National Trust Garden (good bluebells) with
Restaurant
FANNY'S TEASHOP, Markedge Lane, Chipstead. Garden, plants, teas,
groceries, Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs.
GODSTONE/BLETCHINGLEY. Garden Centre
KNOCKHOLT. Coolings Garden Centre
NUTFIELD. Priory Garden Centre
WARLINGHAM Knights Garden Centre
WESTERHAM. Teashop on the Green. Plenty of walks around.
