Title: Keeping Chickens
Post by Trevor on Feb 22nd, 2012 at 9:14am
We'd like to get a few chickens. Are there any covenants or anything that say we're not allowed to keep chickens here?

We will of course check that neighbours are ok with us having chickens ....

Hi Trevor

I think you need to look up the restrictive covenants of you particular property (assuming you own your house), as they do vary in Riddlesdown about keeping livestock. However the restrictive covenants can only be enforced by the person or previous owner of the land who made it and the chances that they are still around, is fairly remote.

Obviously anyone who is a tenant would have an agreement which probably forbids keeping chickens.

I do know of people in Riddlesdown who have kept chickens.

Just make sure you donít have a cockerel, which would probably wake up the neighbourhood up at some unearthly early hour! Obviously one of the biggest problems around here is foxes, who would love these chickens unless they were behind a good fox proof fence!

As you say check with your neighbours first.

thanks Phil .....
I checked the deeds online, nothing in there about "livestock", although chickens would be "pets" not livestock!
And definitely no cockerel .... I don't want to be woken at stupid o'clock either!
