Parking outside Riddlesdown Station

Unfortunately due to technical problems the original message has been deleted. This is a copy of the posting on 10 March 2011 by Woolhouse:

Residents might like to be aware that Croydons' Parking Wardens (or is it Enforcement Officers?!) have started
to book vehicles which are parked across the lowered pavement at the bottom of the ramp leading to the
booking office and platform 1. They have clearly discovered that this is an offence that they can use to further
penalise motorists.

Unfortunately due to technical problems the original message has been deleted. This is a copy of the posting on 12 March 2011:

Parking in front of a dropped kerb has been an offence for many years and it is indeed covered in Rule 243 of
the Highway Code - "do not stop or park where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and
powered mobility vehicles" and also "in front of an entrance to a property."

Local Authorities rather than the Police now undertake enforcement for this type of offence. We are however
advised by Croydon Council they will usually only enforce parking in front of a property, on complaint from the
occupier. However don't take our word for this !!

Also we understand they are also enforcing locally, parking on the pavement and grass verges and sometimes
on individual crossovers in between and beside grass verges to properties. There is also of course, the parking
50cm from the kerb at the end of Honister Heights, which is posted separately on this message board. Not
forgetting also single and double yellow lines and outstaying the 20 minute waiting limit in the bays near both
sets of shops (Lower Barn Rd & Mitchley Ave).

The April 2011 copy of "The Recorder" will cover a number of these parking issues !

We do have an on going dialogue with the Council and will see whether they will do something to highlight this
pedestrian dropped kerb to motorists, by the Station entrance.

The Council have now agreed to the RRA's request to highlight this dropped kerb with a white access marking line and this white line is now marked on the road.

Motorists - be warned that if you park on this white line (or possibly in front of any other dropped access kerb) and/or any part of your vehicle overhangs the dropped kerb you could receive a parking ticket and also possibly be lifted by the Council and the cost to recover your vehicle, is in the region of 300, including the cost of the PCN fine. The Council's Enforcement Officers frequently patrol the area.
