Wakehurst Place Parking Charges
Mar 4th, 2014 at 8:31am

For those National Trust members who use Wakehurst Place, near Ardingly in W Sussex, then from April 2014, Kew who have a 100 year lease from the NT, will be charging NT members only, up to £10 a day for parking (£2 for first hour, £5 second hour, then £10 all day). Many NT members are unhappy about this! Apparently the NT give no money to Kew for their visitors who represent about 80% of admissions.

An endowment provided to the National Trust by Wakehurst’s last private owner, Sir Henry Price, contributes approximately £80,000 a year to the management of the house and gardens. The NT give nothing! Apparently it is written in the lease agreement that NT members should have free access. It looks as if many NT members will now be boycotting these gardens!

"Many National Trust members have visited Wakehurst Place, Ardingly, for many years as part of their costly annual subscription and love the gardens and house. Now they are forced to pay up to £10 each visit. This is unreasonable and unfair. Please support and sign this petition if you would like the charges to be removed immediately by Kew Gardens and the National Trust."

Seems as if Kew have Trip Advisor under their control now. A really poor move by Trip Advisor to remove 240 or so poor reviews about Wakehurst Place!
